Detox/Cleanse how-to’s, what for’s and options

Cleanse or Detox….

When starting a regimine that entails “getting healthier” you do not have to cleanse or do a detox protocol, generally incorporating better eating practices will get you started on cleaner insides as well.  However, if you have been eating better, cleaner, for a few weeks and have not started to see or feel some differences then maybe you should consider a short “time out” from regular eating in order to give your insides a break, clean the gunk off the walls and get everything moving again.

Benefits of a cleanse can vary widely from person to person since we all have different histories of medications, food intolerances or allergies and hormone levels but may include….

more regular bowel movements

less body odor

less ear wax

less phlegm or mucus build up

reduction of dandruff, eczema, or psoriasis

clearer, brighter skin & reduced acne

increase in energy, less need for naps

better sleep

reduced pms symptoms such as cramping and mood swings

no more brain fog

Jump Start and Detox Options

When starting a New Eating Plan some people find it easier to dive in with both feet, getting the gunk out of the system and starting clean. It needs to be understood that Jump Starts and Detox weeks are a short term burst, not something that should be followed for the long term.  They can, however, be repeated quarterly.

Jump Start…3 Day Plan

Protein Shake, I recommend Shakeology or UltraMeal Medical Food

Snack…Raw Berries or Raw Veggies

Apple   ½ banana  Blackberries  Blueberries  Grapefruit  Grapes  Kiwi

½ mango  1 cup melon  Nectarine  Orange  1/2 papaya  Peach  Pear

Pineapple  Plums  Raspberries  Strawberries   Tangerines, 2 small

Veggies

Endive  Lettuce  Spincach  Arugula  Asparagus  Bell pepper

Bok choy  Broccoli  Brussels sprouts  Cabbage  Cauliflower

7 Day Detox

(This is not for the faint of heart or willpower)

7 Days

1 Green Organic Veggie per day, unlimited amounts, raw or LIGHTLY steamed

Examples:  Green beans, Brussels sprouts, spinach, kale, broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, asparagus

And a medical Protein food such as ultrameal, be careful of generic whey proteins, sometimes this is the very thing we must rid from our system

Other Detox Basics

Drink lots of clear water….mayo clinic minimum is to take your weight in pounds, divide by 2 and then drink that number in ounces of water DAILY

Start each day by drinking the juice from ½ a lemon and very warm (not boiling) water

Try a nice detox bath, 2c Epsom salt & 2c sea salt and 2c baking soda added to a warm bath, soak for 15 minutes

No gum

No soda

No artificial Sweeteners

No grains

Be nice to your body, no strenuous exercise this week, just strolls, yoga, meditation
